West Ham are discussing a possible deal for Joey Barton with the 32-year old free agent currently undergoing a medical.
Barton had been working for TV and radio over the weekend and joked he was the best player in the ground during Saturday's game between Bournemouth and Aston Villa.
But he will now agree a contract with the Hammers after keeping himself fit over the summer.
Marseille and Lorient have shown interest in the Huyton-born midfielder who left QPR at the end of the season.
Slaven Bilic wants cover in the defensive midfield position where Reece Oxford excelled against Arsenal.
They have been in constant dialogue with Alex Song but he remains injured while Napoli's Gokhan Inler is leaning towards a move to Leicester.

Was this deal ever really off?
The owners treat us like idiots.
They knew Song was 2 / 3 months from fitness weeks ago. Barton's gracious tweet in response to fan pressure scuppering the original deal was just softening us up.....
'Don't worry Joey we'll pretend the deal is off and that we listened to the fans, then just before the window shuts we'll do the deal using Song's injury as the reason"

I think this is one of the things they did get right. The players he would replace aren't our biggest problem by any stretch.

I think it was suggested by Sullivan in the dreaded podcast, that a couple of senior players,not named,objected to the Barton signing.and they didn't want to upset the dressing room morale.

Kouate had a slow start yesterday, Payet didn't turn up, Nolan was Nolan, that didn't give Noble and Obiang much of a chance yesterday.

Honest Hammer - I beg to differ on that one.
Whilst the goals were all down to individual errors Bournemouth bossed the game by dominating in midfield.
I don't think that Barton is the answer though as we are still screaming out for pace and movement in there not another plodder.

For large parts of the game yesterday our midfield was too narrow and too slow. Barton wouldn't improve that.
